I was born in New Orleans in 1981. My family didn’t have much, materially, that is. But a ton of love pulsed through a tiny home that sheltered nine of us, four generations, together. My great grandmother used to put a spoon of coffee in my milk. I don’t know why, but I loved that almost as much as I loved her. I promised her someday I was going to own a coffee company. Though I may not have understood why I made that vow then, I know now. To me, a cup of coffee embodies peace and love.
When I was 18, I joined a musical group and went to Japan to perform. I heard that calling for 10 years, until Hurricane Katrina devastated my hometown, and family. I boarded a plane and headed home. Working with some of my business partners, I raised money to help rebuild destroyed homes and bring families back to the Gulf Coast. I relocated to the Los Angeles area with a mission to fulfill the promise I made to my great grandmother many years ago.
